Pet-Friendly Hotels and Villas Personally Recommended by Tayo Bear

Finding genuinely welcoming pet-friendly hotels in Sri Lanka is not always easy. This list is based on places we have personally stayed at with our doggies.

Our experience does not guarantee that every doggy will be accepted. Pet policies change, and some properties decide case by case. Always contact the property before booking, explain your doggy’s behaviour honestly and receive permission in writing.

Ambalama Villa — Galle

We booked Ambalama for my birthday, and Lisa and Mango had the best time. The owner and staff were amazing with our girls, and there was plenty of space for them to enjoy. The property was not fully fenced. so it may not suit a doggy who wanders. Doggy stays are considered individually, and you must receive permission before booking. The team could also prepare food for our girls when we purchased what was needed, which was incredibly helpful.

C Beyond Nilaveli — Trincomalee

Lisa and Mango have stayed at C Beyond several times, and the team has always been incredibly welcoming. During our visits, the property had around ten friendly resident doggies, so this will not suit every reactive dog. There are also cows nearby, making vet-approved tick protection is important. The wooden fencing may not securely contain every doggy. We recommend the Pandanus room because it had the perfect amount of space for us and our girls. Always arrange permission directly before booking.

The Villa by Contemporary Ceylon — Wadduwa

This was one of the first pet-friendly villas in Sri Lanka that we knew about. We have visited the villa ourselves, although Lisa and Mango have not stayed there. The owners are wonderful dog parents who treat their doggies like their children, and many Tayo Bear customers have shared lovely experiences with us. Doggy stays are accommodated by prior arrangement, so contact the owners, introduce your doggy properly and receive approval before paying.

Ellerton Bungalow — Doluwa, Kandy

Google Maps ¡ +94 81 241 5137 ¡ Website

We stayed at Ellerton with one of our doggies through a special arrangement. The owner genuinely loves doggies, and the bungalow had one calm resident doggy at the time. The surrounding hill country is beautiful, and you may be able to enjoy suitable walks with your doggy after speaking to the property. Ellerton does not advertise itself as generally pet-friendly, so do not book first and assume permission will follow. Have a proper conversation with the owner before confirming anything.

Hideaway Arugam Bay

Lisa and Mango stayed at Hideaway, and the owners and team were amazing with them. The property has its own lovely, socialised resident doggies. Remember that Hideaway is their home and visiting doggies are the guests! never allow your doggy to trouble them or make them feel unwelcome. We took our girls’ own beds, and the restaurant kindly prepared bacon and scrambled eggs for them in the mornings. Call first, explain how your doggy behaves around other dogs and receive permission before booking.

Kurulu Bay — Ahangama

Google Maps ¡ +94 76 095 0090 ¡ Website

Kurulu Bay is one of the best places we have taken Lisa and Mango. The staff were absolutely amazing, the space was peaceful and the property was fenced when we stayed. We did not encounter resident doggies, but there were monkeys, so visiting doggies must remain calm and under control. The team could prepare simple options such as scrambled eggs or bacon, although taking your doggy’s usual food is always better. Doggy stays require prior approval, and additional charges may apply.

LUSH Ahangama

Google Maps ¡ +94 76 165 5108 ¡ Airbnb

We love LUSH because the owner is a wonderful person. The villa suited two humans with Lisa and Mango perfectly. It was fenced when we stayed, and there were no resident doggies. Take your doggy’s own food; the kitchen makes it easy to prepare their meals. The open bathroom was not very practical for us, although I find most open bathrooms impractical, so perhaps that is just us. Contact the owner and receive approval before booking with your doggy.

The RIV Eco Villa — Riverston

Google Maps ¡ +94 77 174 3998 ¡ Website

We visited The RIV with friends and took one of their doggies, who had a lovely time. The property is not fenced, so keep your doggy close and use a lead when needed. Leeches are common in the area, so check paws, legs and bellies carefully and ask your vet about dog-safe protection before travelling. The RIV welcomes doggies, but you must still call first, introduce yours and confirm the current rules before booking.

A Doggy-Friendly Stop: Smoke & Bitters — Dikwella

Google Maps ¡ +94 76 990 2389 ¡ Website

Smoke & Bitters is one of the best bars in Sri Lanka and ranked No. 29 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026. Its outdoor garden is a lovely place to relax with your doggy. The team is welcoming, but your doggy must not disturb the resident Lankan doggies, staff or other guests. Keep them close and properly supervised, and call before visiting especially when making a reservation.

Before You Book

Being listed here is not permanent permission. Contact every property directly, follow its current rules and bring your doggy’s own food, bed, towels, bowls and supplies. If we want dog-friendly hotels in Sri Lanka and other stays to continue welcoming our doggies, we must respect the opportunity.

Before booking, read our Pet-Friendly Hotels and Villas in Sri Lanka: 2026 Guide . You can also see the pet-friendly accommodation recommended by Sri Lankan dog parents and use our Dog Travel Checklist for Sri Lanka  before your trip.
